Vampire Art![]() Mark of the Vampire, Bela Lugosi, 1935 - Buy at AllPosters.com
The idea of vampirism has been with us for a long time. Older cultures and civilizations had stories of demons and spirits which developed into tales of vampires. The modern vampire however can be traced to early 18th century South-eastern Europe. Belief in vampires became so dominant in this time and region that in some areas it caused mass hysteria and even public executions of people believed to be vampires or the staking of their corpses. Vampire art is a genre that has developed with stories and books but more recently with movies. The book "Dracula" written in 1897 by author Bram Stoker featured the vampire Count Dracula as the main character. This character became the subject of various movies. The character from the book is loosely based around a very nice and real historical gentleman... "Vlad the Impaler".
